The Department of the Taoiseach and the National Economic and Social Development Office (NESDO) - the only body under the aegis of the Department - liaise closely with the Office of Government Procurement on all matters related to public procurement and monitor all areas of expenditure on an ongoing basis to ensure that value for money is being achieved.

Under Department of Finance Circular 40/2002, annual returns are made to the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) in respect of contracts above a €25,000 threshold which are awarded without a competitive process as part of the preparation of the Appropriation Account. The Department made this return in respect of 2025.

All procurement in the Department and NESDO is audited by the C&AG.

The audit of the Department's 2025 Appropriation Account is still underway.

NESDO’s 2025 Annual Report, which contains their audited financial statements, will be submitted to Government shortly and subsequently published.

The audit of the Department's Appropriation Account and NESDO's financial statements for 2026 can only commence when both bodies have submitted same to the C&AG.
