The cost of providing a 1% or €500 increase across the public service on a pro-rata basis is estimated to be €420m, inclusive of pay and pensions costs, if such an increase were to be provided on the 1st of May 2026. This is a full year cost estimate which is based on end-2025 figures of 417,464 whole-time equivalent public servants, which are the most recent final data available.
