Sport Ireland, which is funded by my Department, is the statutory body with responsibility for the development of sport, increasing participation at all levels and raising standards, including the allocation of funding across its various programmes.
Neither my Department nor Sport Ireland provides direct funding of the nature sought for clubs or individuals. Sport Ireland channels its funding support through the relevant National Governing Body of sport (NGB), in this case the GAA. There is no mechanism by which Sport Ireland can allocate funding outside of this process.
My Department operates two capital funding programmes for sport, namely the Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF) and the Large-Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF. Clubs can apply for equipment or capital funding under the CSFF and I expect that a new round of the CSFF will open later in 2026. It is anticipated that the next round will particularly target areas and sports that have been under-invested in over the years.
