237. To ask the Minister for Health when the ten-bed specialised community mental health unit will be delivered for County Wexford; if this unit will provide service to adults and minors; if this unit will specialise in mental health crisis care; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Health are leading work to develop a 10-year Capital Plan for Mental Health Services, and as part of this work the need for a new mental health facility in Wexford has been identified. In anticipation of progressing a new proposal, the HSE is currently reviewing current and future service needs for the Wexford area, and a scoping exercise is being established based on updated service requirements. A strategy will be developed and progressed in line with HSE Protocols and Infrastructure Guidelines.

I have included the development of an initial 10-bed specialist community mental health facility for Wexford in the Capital Plan 2026 following consultation with the Integrated Healthcare Area manager for Waterford / Wexford and the Executive Clinical Director for the region.

I will be publishing the 10 year capital plan in 2026.

As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond directly to the Deputy as soon as possible.
