I propose to take Questions Nos. 153 and 154 together.

Data is collated from the 2025-2026 preliminary enrolments which can be found at the link below.

www.gov.ie/en/department-of-education/collections/post-primary-schools-enrolment-figures/.

As per the lists, Gaelscoileanna are those schools with an Irish classification of "all subjects through Irish" and Gaelcholaistí are those schools with an Irish classification of "all pupils taught all subjects through Irish"

The preliminary enrolment data will be replaced by the final enrolment data for 2025-2026 which we expect to publish in June 2026.

National enrolments in primary schools peaked in 2018/19, followed by a smaller peak in 2022/23, and are projected to continue to decrease over the coming years.

Enrolments in post-primary schools are projected to peak this year, 2025/26, before beginning to fall.
