Investing in and ensuring a fit for purpose electricity grid is a priority for Government. However, the development of the electricity grid, including the selection of projects to deliver, are not matters in which I have a function. These are functions which are assigned to the respective Distribution, ESB Networks, and Transmission, EirGrid, System Operators and for which they are accountable to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

The CRU oversees investment in the electricity system through the Price Review process and recently approved Price Review 6, setting out the up to €18.9 billion which EirGrid and ESB Networks will invest over the period 2026-2030. EirGrid and ESB Networks determine the capital projects to be delivered during Price Review 6 period.

The Deputy may wish to contact ESB Networks and EirGrid directly in the first instance via oireachtas@esb.ie and oireachtas@eirgrid.com regarding the issue which he is raising. The CRU may also be contacted via oireachtas@cru.ie should the Deputy require further information regarding the Price Review process.
