67. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade if, in the context of Ireland assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in July 2026, any security concerns or specific requests relating to the safety of heads of State, ministers, delegations or other visiting officials attending meetings in Ireland have been communicated to the Government by other EU member states; if so, the nature of any such concerns; and if she will make a statement on the matter. In the context of ongoing preparations for our upcoming EU Presidency during the second half of 2026, my Department is engaging with Ireland’s EU partners at various levels and across the full range of issues that might be expected to arise insofar as EU Presidency-related meetings taking place in Ireland are concerned.
The safety of Heads of State, Ministers, delegations or other visiting officials attending meetings in Ireland will inform many aspects of our planning, which remains underway in consultation with An Garda Síochána and other relevant authorities. Given the nature of the issues in question, it is not appropriate to disclose details of any specific exchanges with EU partners in this connection.
