The table at the link below summarises the dairy and beef calf births from 2020 to 2025. More detailed data on beef and dairy calf births can be found in the annual AIM Bovine Statistics reports published on the Department website at the following link: www.gov.ie/en/department-of-agriculture-food-and-the-marine/publications/aim-bovine-statistics-reports/, specifically Chapter 1, page 12 (comparative data for 2025 is also included at the link). This data is extracted from the Animal Identification and Movement (AIM) system. Beef and dairy cattle in this report are categorised by their breed on the AIM system

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1396 and 1397 together.
As of 1 September 2025 the National Beef Herd amounted to 3,990,163, (1,618,515 male and 2,371,648 female) and the National Dairy Herd amounted to 2,640,433 (335,926 male and 2,304,507 female). The tables at the link below summarises the beef and dairy population by sex from 2020 – 2025. More detailed data can be found in the “Age Profile for Dairy and Beef Animals” report published on the Department of Agriculture website at the following link: www.gov.ie/en/department-of-agriculture-food-and-the-marine/publications/cattle-aim/#bovine-birth-and-movements-monthly-reports.
