536. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he is aware of concerns regarding the proposed development of the new Garda station at Kickham Barracks, Clonmel, including the potential impact of the design and proximity of the building to the existing plaza and canopy area; the projected additional costs or risks associated with construction on such a constrained site; the distance between the canopy area and the new building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The potential impact of the design of the new Garda Station building and the proximity of the new Garda Station building to the existing plaza and canopy area were both considered during the design stage of the project.

The distance between the edge of the new Garda Station and the canopy is approximately 2.2 metres

In accordance with the requirements of the Infrastructure Guidelines, the Final Business Case – including the tendered construction cost, which makes allowances for the constraints of the site – has been approved by the department of Justice, Home affairs and Migration.

The matter of the proximity to the existing plaza and canopy area has been reviewed with the contractor and the contractor has confirmed that they will make provisions to protect against damage to all adjoining property, including the canopy.
