395. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will report on the current platform length at MacDonagh Junction railway station in Kilkenny; the rationale for the decision to shorten the platform during redevelopment works in or around 2009; if he will engage with CIÉ/Iarnród Éireann to ensure that plans are put in place to extend the platform to accommodate longer intercity services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister of Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding of public transport. The operation, maintenance and renewal of the rail network and stations on the network, including Kilkenny train station, is a matter for Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) in the first instance.

Noting IÉ's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to IÉ for a direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.
