129. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment if there has been an environmental assessment carried out on the importation of peat; if not, if he will conduct one; if so, if he will publish the details of the assessment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have no function in relation to this matter. National peatlands management is a matter for the National Parks and Wildlife Service and issues around the extraction of horticultural peat are a matter for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Furthermore, market activities such as the importation or exportation of any product do not require an environmental assessment (either a Strategic Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Assessment).
