128. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the reason for the €4 million in capital underspend in his Department as outlined in the fiscal monitor for December 2017; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2495/18]

I wish to inform the Deputy that the principal reason for the 2017 capital underspend in my Department relates to the construction of a new laboratory for Forensic Science Ireland in Backweston, Co. Kildare. This project is being managed by the OPW and enabling works for the project have recently completed at a price less than budget.  Final design is in the process of completion, and it is expected that the main construction project will commence in 2018 following procurement, with the majority of the build occurring during 2019 and completion in 2020.
