Question 149: To ask the Minister for Education and Science when she will provide funding and approval for the long awaited extension to a school (details supplied) in County Galway which is severely overcrowded; and the cause of the long delay in this case. [19210/07]

An application for an extension has been received from the school to which the Deputy refers.
An assessment of projected enrolments, demographic trends and housing developments in the area will be required in order to assist in determining the long term projected enrolment for the school on which the school's long term accommodation needs will be based. When the long-term projected enrolment has been finalised and agreed with the school authorities my Department will draw up schedules of accommodation for the project which will be notified to the school management authority. The required project will then be considered in the context of the School Building and Modernisation Programme.

Question 150: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if, as a result of her visit to a school (details supplied) in County Galway, progress has been made in the provision of a new school on this site; if the technical assessment has been carried out; if sanction and approval is forthcoming after a wait of ten years in extremely poor conditions and severe overcrowding; and if she will make a statement on the matter. A site visit to the school to which the Deputy refers has taken place with a view to finalising the project brief and progressing the appointment of a design team. On completion of the brief, the project will be considered in the context of the School Building and Modernisation Programme.
