Question 103: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children her views on the statement made that the hospital trolleys are a top class facility for persons who required them in view of the fact that many patients are left on hospital trolleys for many days in hospital corridors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. A significant programme of investment is under way to ensure that the physical infrastructure of accident and emergency departments provides appropriate facilities for the treatment of patients. I have already announced a series of measures that are being put in place to improve the delivery of accident and emergency services. These actions take a wide ranging approach and are aimed at improving access to accident and emergency services, improving patient flows through accident and emergency departments, freeing up acute beds and providing appropriate longer term care for patients outside of the acute hospital setting.
