Question 264: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Central Fisheries Board is operating illegally under the Fisheries Act 1980 due to the fact that the members of the board, which is responsible for the direction of the chief executive, have all served their allotted time and have not been replaced; if non-replacement of the board is due to the fact that the long overdue fisheries review is about to be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The position in relation to the membership of the Central Fisheries Board is that the vacancies, which occurred recently, will be filled shortly in accordance with section 23 of the Fisheries (Amendment) Act 1999. There have been no difficulties reported to the Department by the management of the Central Fisheries Board arising from the current vacancies, and the Central Fisheries Board continues to operate normally on a day-to-day basis.
