I raise a final issue, that of LNG in Tarbert, County Kerry, a project that has been limping along for some considerable time. Offshore Exploration (7 Mar 2012)

Martin Ferris: ...the project going ahead cannot be overstated. Communication seems to be a problem, which I cannot understand, given that on 21 December the Taoiseach said he would set up a meeting between Shannon LNG, the regulator and the Department. If we cannot get all of the stakeholders around the table, this issue will not be resolved.

Offshore Exploration (7 Mar 2012)

Martin Ferris: I attended a meeting last Thursday morning which included a briefing session that involved the regulator. In answer to a question from the floor from one of the groups supporting the Shannon LNG project about who was responsible for policy, the regulator said he was. I assume policy is determined by elected representatives, not the regulator. Is it possible in the short term to facilitate...

Energy Projects (29 Nov 2011)

Martin Ferris: The importance of LNG for north Kerry and west Limerick cannot be emphasised enough. We are concerned with as many as 450 jobs to start it up. Reports, true or otherwise, have been consistently circulating in the area that Hess LNG is on the brink of pulling out because of the possible €10 million tariff per year to use the national gas pipe network. The regulator has told Shannon LNG...

This area was one of the hardest hit by people being laid...
