Lorraine Clifford-Lee: It is-----

Seanad: Rights-Based Care Economy: Motion (27 Sep 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I thank Senator O'Loughlin, who has plenty more to say on this issue. I appreciate the work she has put into this, and that of the women's caucus. It is a very important motion. It is very long but contains so many facets. It is very important that we have the conversation because, as she outlined and is mentioned in the motion, care is very gender based. There is unpaid and paid care....

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Sep 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Everyone is very welcome back. I wish to raise a matter I saw on the front of the Irish Mail on Sundaylast week. I was very concerned to read the front-page story about the €14 billion hole in the national development plan budget. I believe a memorandum was brought to Cabinet today by the Minister for Transport, Deputy Ryan, on this inflation-driven deficit. It is very concerning....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I was following the meeting online and heard all of our guests' contributions. I really appreciate the work they put into their opening statements as well as the time they are spending with us today. I know they are all volunteers. The work they are doing, on a very limited budget and with only volunteers, is absolutely tremendous. There is far more public awareness of endometriosis now...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: A formal link.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Regarding GP training, are GPs who are currently being trained offered training in endometriosis care?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Are there continuing professional development, CPD, modules available for GPs currently working in Ireland who want to improve or update their knowledge, or get any knowledge, of endometriosis?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: That is incredible. The witnesses are not aware of any formal training for young GPs who are currently being trained, so it is up to them to take it on themselves to Google it. Is that what this country is allowing in respect of a very serious condition? The witnesses described how serious it is.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I hope that as part of the national endometriosis framework, funding will be provided for GPs. Perhaps we could get somebody in from the Department of Health to tease that out. Is awareness increasing? Are people becoming more aware at a younger age?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Is the stigma reducing with awareness?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: Is it a case of employers not understanding?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I thank the witnesses for all the work they are doing.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I too thank the witnesses for sharing their personal stories. I know it is not easy. We should be past a place in Ireland where women have to share their personal, private medical history to get a bit of movement. I feel for all our witnesses and am sorry they have had to go through what they have. We are going to do our best to make things better for them.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Services for the Treatment of Endometriosis: Endometriosis Association of Ireland (28 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: On that note, I ask the witnesses to keep in touch with us and reach out to us. We are all much more aware of everything following this meeting, and we are here to advocate on their behalf.

Seanad: Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022: Second Stage (13 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: That is correct. We will speak for the six minutes each, with the agreement of the Chair and the House.

Seanad: Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022: Second Stage (13 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I welcome the Minister back to this House and to the Houses of the Oireachtas following her maternity leave. I am in favour of hate crime legislation. It is not before time that we are updating the position. However, I have some concerns about the legislation and more so about what is not in the legislation rather than what is. Specifically, I am concerned at the lack of antisemitism...

Seanad: Capital Investment in the Health Service: Statements (1 Jun 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: The Minister is always welcome to the Seanad. I do not know where to begin with his statement because it is so large. Having more than €1 billion in funding available is phenomenal. The Minister also mentioned primary care centres, surgical hubs and the national children's hospital. It is all fantastic work and we are very happy with progress and the amount of money that has been...

Seanad: Capital Investment in the Health Service: Statements (1 Jun 2023)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Report of the Review of the Operation of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018: Discussion (31 May 2023)

Lorraine Clifford-Lee: I second that. I think it is a very sensible proposal.
