Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Undocumented Migrants Living in Ireland: Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (25 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the witnesses for coming in and Mr. Montenegro for sharing his story. I am sorry about the loss of his father. He is welcome today, as are the people in the Gallery. I wish I could say that as a nation we could be more welcoming to people, particularly those in direct provision. I have lost two members of my family in the past 14 months so I know how difficult it can be and must...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Undocumented Migrants Living in Ireland: Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (25 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I greatly admire the work the MRCI does. I regularly meet people in my clinic who are in this situation. It might be a work, student or holiday visa that has run out, there is a break and they do not know where to go next. I have encountered several people who have had people supposedly helping them with their paperwork and charging them for it. Now, when somebody comes to me with that...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Undocumented Migrants Living in Ireland: Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (25 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I am glad to hear that. Is the MRCI only based in Dublin? Does it ever do a type of roving clinic around the country? People cannot always travel to Dublin to call to the MRCI and it is not ideal for somebody who does not have good English to speak on the telephone.

Vote 13 - OPW
Chapter 4 - Accounting for OPW Agency Services
(26 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the witnesses for coming before the committee. The disadvantage of coming last is many of my questions have already been asked. With regard to flood risk management, the witnesses spoke a lot about coastal flooding. The report mentions 300 areas, 66 of which are connected to the Shannon. In 2009, we were told major works would not be done because they would not be cost-effective...

Public Accounts Committee: 2013 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General Appropriation Accounts 2013
Vote 13 - OPW
Chapter 4 - Accounting for OPW Agency Services
(26 Feb 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: Given the number of agencies, there must be one lead. Meelick is not in my constituency, but a man-made cut there, which is overgrown, is affecting my constituency. We cannot get one half of it cleared because it is a special area of conservation and planning permission is required. One is passed from Department to Department because it is not its responsibility. There needs to be one...
