Jim Walsh: More than 1 billion babies aborted.

Seanad: Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Bill 2013: Committee Stage (9 Dec 2015)

Jim Walsh: I ask that amendment No. 211 would be removed from the grouping. The other amendments cover constitutional matters and No. 211 is an issue of conscience. The amendments are in no way connected or related.

Seanad: Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Bill 2013: Committee Stage (9 Dec 2015)

Jim Walsh: A point of order, the Senator is not speaking to the amendment.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade: Foreign Affairs Council: Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (25 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: Excuse me because I am a little hoarse but I will be brief. Like others, I commend the Minister on his role in the talks in the North but I would go further. His advent to the office has heralded a keener and renewed interest in and engagement with the North of Ireland. I commend the Minister in that regard. He has done well on other issues too in the Department of Foreign Affairs. He...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade: Foreign Affairs Council: Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (25 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: This is to do with migration. I have sat here for an hour and a half or almost two hours to get to this.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade: Foreign Affairs Council: Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (25 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: I have two points to finish.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade: Foreign Affairs Council: Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (25 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: I have taken three minutes to get to where I am. Others have had five minutes. The Minister indicated that the Council agreed on new measures aimed at strengthening the EU's external borders. Will he outline what they are? I raise the issue of the whole migration policy. Many Muslims who have immigrated to Europe feel culturally alienated from the societies in which they live. Some...

Seanad: Order of Business (25 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: I join Senator Jim D'Arcy and others in welcoming the new agreement in Northern Ireland. I especially welcome the appointment of a task force, which we hope will be effective in eradicating criminal activities within what was formerly the Provisional movement and perhaps still is the Provisional movement, particularly in south Armagh and other Border areas. However, I very much regret that...

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: I support the comments on rural crime made by Senator Thomas Byrne and agree with him that we urgently need to have a debate on crime which I know is a problem in urban and rural areas. It was very discouraging to see a serial burglar being released by the courts recently against all of the advice of the Garda at the time. Such a decision calls into question how connected many members of...

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: As I did yesterday, I seek a debate on the abortion issue. I agree with Senator Susan O'Keeffe who sought a debate on the repeal of the eight amendment and call on the Leader to arrange same. There is an onus on those who are proposing the repeal of the eight amendment to talk about the procedures to be used to kill a baby because that is what abortion is about.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: It is not just about somebody sanguine.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: It is.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: It is also a fundamental human rights issue. I refer to the right to life.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: The right to life is fundamental, as Senator Susan O'Keeffe knows. I would like her to outline her position on the issue, as well as on the issue of gendercide.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: The Senator is excluding them from life. That is my concern with Senator O'Keeffe.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: Hear, hear.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: The private sector does not have leave of absence. If it did, companies would not function effectively.

Seanad: Order of Business (12 Nov 2015)

Jim Walsh: I am giving the Leader a bit of advice about the private sector.
