Order of Business (16 Dec 2010)

Mary Upton: I wish to raise two issues. When can we expect the Property Services (Regulation) Bill back in the House? The second issue relates to the health repayment scheme. Despite a claim having been submitted, accepted and declared in order in 2007, the person involved is still awaiting payment. In October of this year she was told she would be paid before Christmas.

Order of Business (16 Dec 2010)

Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations: Motion (16 Dec 2010)

Mary Upton: No.

Order of Business (16 Dec 2010)

Mary Upton: It is not agreed. The proposal under No. 29 to allocate approximately €26 million to the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund from the general Exchequer is totally unacceptable in the current climate. At a time when we are taking money from carers and cutting the minimum wage, it is not acceptable to provide so much money to the horse and greyhound industry. I accept that the industry is...

National Minimum Wage: Motion (Resumed) (15 Dec 2010)

Mary Upton: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this motion. The Government's measure makes no social or economic sense. There is no social argument, based on fairness or anything else, that justifies cutting the incomes of the lowest earners in society. Instead, it has been framed as an argument about competitiveness that is influenced by a certain ideology, which believes that those on the lowest...

Social Welfare Bill 2010: Second Stage (8 Dec 2010)

Mary Upton: The most striking aspect of this Bill and the budget is how much effort has been put into politically proofing it and how little attention has been given to considering the true effects of its proposals on the daily lives of ordinary people.
