Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: I thank the Leader of the House for granting my request for a debate on this matter. He is aware of the sensitivities of this issue. I am pleased that the Minister of State with responsibility for disability issues will come to the House to outline the latest position and say whether the closure can be deferred for six months or a year to enable us to sit down and try to solve this problem....

Seanad: Imminent Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday Resort: Statements (27 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: I proposed on the Order of Business this morning that the Minister of State be invited in today to outline the Government's policy on the closure of Cuisle on this black Friday, with the loss of 45 staff, with facilities second to none for the thousands of wheelchair-bound and other active people who have facilitated and enjoyed their holidays. The Minister of State is certainly not giving...

Seanad: Imminent Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday Resort: Statements (27 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: As I tabled the motion today, I am telling the Minister of State to inform the IWA to listen to its members and have an extraordinary general meeting. He should not try to suppress it. Does the Minister of State know that the IWA will not provide buses for people to go to the rally on Saturday or the rally here in Dublin? It is trying to suppress the wishes of its members in regard to...

Seanad: Imminent Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday Resort: Statements (27 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: I do not think that is true.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: Good morning to the Leas-Chathaoirleach and Leader. I certainly have no objection to the Order of Business and it is quite in order. I request that the Leader arrange an early debate with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Shane Ross, on transport matters. Would it be possible to have a questions and answers session rather than statements, which are not all that helpful...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: It is simple technology and it would have helped. People on the Luas should watch their wallets and be aware of scamming that is going on. They should also try to avoid overcrowded trains as it makes it easy to be a victim of a pickpocket. I lost a few euro but I learned much.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday and Respite Care Resort: Discussion (21 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: On a point of order, as a long-serving Roscommon Senator I was not contacted, even though I worked with the association and received and paid funds in the past. I thank the association for its contact with me about this.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday and Respite Care Resort: Discussion (21 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: I thank the Chairman and his committee for arranging this meeting today. I failed to contact the CEO. She refused to take calls from me, which is strange. It has not happened in my many years in public life that someone in such a position would not communicate with elected representatives, but Ms Keogh is here today. I welcome Councillors Orla Leyden and Anthony Waldron and all the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday and Respite Care Resort: Discussion (21 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: That is outrageous. I made it quite clear that the message was to Ms Keogh, not her. Let us be quite clear. This is a trick you are using to damage my reputation.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Proposed Closure of Cuisle Accessible Holiday and Respite Care Resort: Discussion (21 Nov 2019)

Terry Leyden: That is totally unfair. In all my 40 years of public office, and I served in three Departments, no staff member would ever say I treated them in an unfair way. I never lost a staff member in all my years. I want that withdrawn.
