Coveney is misrepresenting the reality of the situation by describing Libya like this: "camps in Libya from which many are desperately trying to escape and are at the mercy of people traffickers"

While that is a correct statement insofar as it goes, it omits the following facts:

1. People are desperate to get into Libya in order to
2. Hire people smugglers to get them to the EU

Coveney is trying to create a picture of hapless victims finding themselves trapped somewhere dangerous and at the mercy of bad people. The truth is they've entered Libya precisely so as to find people smugglers. They are clients of people smugglers. He also omits to mention that the vast majority of those entering Libya are found to be economic migrants.

More damaging half-truths from our government.
