Reading these question and answers one could be forgiven for thinking that the Budget 2012 pension changes are going to be reversed but as one of those protesting outside the Dáil in November and January let me inform you that that is not what is happening. What is happening is that post 2012 pensioners will get well deserved credits for time taken out caring for children or adult dependant regardless of whether it was prior or post 1994 under the interim TCA. Those who are not in the position to get carer credits may possibly get an increase under the interim TCA but for many that will not be the case. The 40 years basis for the TCA will make sure of that. I am down €19.80 weekly because of the budget 2012 changes and under the interim TCA should get an increase of €7.08 but that still leaves me short €12.78 weekly. My sister who was protesting with me will continue to lose €31.40 weekly. The harm done by Budget 2012 pension changes is not being fixed and it is disingenuous to state or imply that it is.
