Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food

Collection of Farm Plastics: Discussion

2:00 am

Mr. Liam Moloney:

I just want to reiterate what Ms Kiely was saying. We collect the material typically between April and around October, so the yards are quite full then. Then onwards until April of the next year we collect very little, so we empty them out. We are very comfortable with the volume of material that is currently in our contractors' yards. We expect to have no more than 7,000 tonnes or 8,000 tonnes in our contractors' yards when they head out next April and May with the spring centre programme. The capacity for our contractors is 45,000 tonnes, so there is a lot of spare capacity. We do not want to fill up the yards but it is good to have so much extra capacity. As I said, we are comfortable with where things are at in the yards at the moment.
