Transatlantic Trade Relations: American Chamber of Commerce Ireland
2:00 am
Brian Brennan (Wicklow-Wexford, Fine Gael)
It is good to hear Mr. Sweetman's positivity and I admire that. Not finishing on a downer, this is hugely important - it was brought up a number of times today - in relation to Gaza, the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland's stance on Gaza and its commentary on Gaza. Is there no place for corporate responsibility? We have been told by people who were sitting exactly where Mr. Sweetman is sitting now how minimum the amount of money involved is. Is America afraid that Ireland is taking the lead and a moral responsibility? Why is there such a fear when there is so little money involved in goods and trade over there? Why is there so much lobbying going on at the highest level? Are these the people we want to run our world? That is the question I have. We have to go beyond the business. I am lucky enough in the past six months I have been around the world. When I wear an Irish badge, that opens doors and people say that we are taking the lead. We were the first ones almost to stand up. That should count; it should not be ruled out. We should never forget - I know Mr. Sweetman is not - the kids at the end of this who are suffering. We have to stand up.
