The teacher referred to by the Deputy is registered with the Teaching Council under Route 2 (Post Primary) and Route 3 (Further Education). He is currently working in a special primary school. As he was not registered with the Teaching Council under Route 1 (Primary) registration he was paid an unqualified rate of pay.

With effect from September 2023 post primary qualified teachers (Route 2) who are teaching in special primary schools may now be paid the qualified rate of pay. This was not the case previously.

The necessary arrangements are being made to update the teacher's applicable pay rate to the qualified rate of pay. Staff in the Payroll Division of my Department will be in direct contact with the teacher regarding the payment date.
