I propose to take Questions Nos. 501 and 502 together.
Given the move away from large-scale and resource-intensive social housing construction programmes by local authorities and the consequent absence of representative tender prices, there is no evidence-base to support the compilation of accurate costings for the construction of social houses. However, based on the most recent proposals received from 32 local authorities for the construction of some 185 social houses, by way of small infill developments, the average cost of providing a social housing unit is around â¬162,000. These figures are, for the most part, based on cost estimates for a range of house types and actual cost may only be determined once tenders have been received.
