Question 319: To ask the Minister for the Environment; Community and Local Government if he will reimburse Kerry County Council for costal protection works at Inch, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16989/11]
Phil Hogan (Minister, Department of Environment, Community and Local Government; Carlow-Kilkenny, Fine Gael)
In 2008 a commitment to support emergency coastal protection works at Inch was entered into as part of the CLÃR Programme’s Coastal Development Scheme, under the former Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs. My Department now has responsibility for the CLÃR Programme.
The funding committed to this project at the time was on the basis of 12.5% from the CLÃR Programme, 75% from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food and 12.5% from Kerry County Council. I understand that the amount due through CLÃR, €150,000 was fully drawn down by the County Council in 2008, and it was based on the overall project cost of €1.2 million notified at the time. Accordingly, there is no further commitment due in respect of this project. No funding applications have been accepted since August 2008 under the main CLÃR Programme measures.
