Those who participate in the profession get obscene amounts for very little effort and work. It is unconscionable that it has not been tackled, given the IMF recommendations, one of which was to ensure competition in our legal profession. The fact that we still pay people €200,000 to €500,000 per year from public finances when hard-pressed taxpayers and those on social welfare are paying the price shows the lack of political commitment to dealing with these very unfair issues which must be addressed if we are to have a more just society.
