Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Special Educational Needs Service Provision (8 May 2019)

Joan Burton: ...ground? It has been a long-standing practice in this House for Ministers to meet Deputies on overwhelmingly important issues such as this which affect their constituency. Perhaps Fine Gael would revert to that practice while it is in government. The Minister told us he met the Taoiseach in his capacity as a Deputy. That is the same capacity we have. We will be happy to the meet the...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (16 Apr 2019)

Joan Burton: Since Donald Trump became President of the USA, the US Agency International Development has reverted to a Republican position of boycotting all programmes in developing countries which involve support for women's health issues, in particular access to contraception and medical services specifically for women. Successive Irish Administrations have raised this with the US Administration. Did...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Matters Relating to the Banking Sector: Bank of Ireland (4 Apr 2019)

Joan Burton: Will the bank revert to us, as it is a significant issue for the people affected? In our earlier discussion on culture, the word "bonus" was not mentioned, but we are aware that a great deal of pressure has been put on the Government to jettison the caps on payments to senior executives. We understand the arguments that our guests have made about the difficulty in recruiting staff. In...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Sale of Permanent TSB Mortgage Loans: Discussion (6 Dec 2018)

Joan Burton: ...meeting their terms and conditions but whose mortgages are being sold over their heads. The key question is when and how often does Pepper propose to review the mortgages? Will reviews include reverting to the warehoused elements of the split loans and charging in full for that. We need to know how Pepper is going to treat this because that is what is going to keep a lot of people awake...

Ceisteanna (Atógáíl) - Questions (Resumed): Gender Equality (3 Oct 2018)

Joan Burton: -----it just reverts to the male, stale and pale model that the Taoiseach and his Government have focused on so far in its term of office.

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Other Questions: Public Sector Pensions (3 Jul 2018)

Joan Burton: ...decides to stay on, for example, an usher in the Houses, beyond the retirement age of 65 years, he or she will effectively be in a supplementary position. People are being advised that they will revert to the first point on their employment scales, which is a significant loss of approximately €100 per week. I am wondering what is the logic of this.

Ceisteanna - Questions: Strategic Communications Unit (24 Apr 2018)

Joan Burton: ...on? How much did the study carried out by the Secretary General cost? One of his senior officials helped the Secretary General with his work. This has been a fiasco. Will each Department revert to having its own public affairs function and press officer, as was the tradition? Is the Government Information Service being restored and, if so, on what basis? We deserve to know the...

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2017: Committee Stage (Resumed) (9 Nov 2017)

Joan Burton: ...a collapse of their enterprises? If their enterprises collapsed, it was not because of the agreement but it was a matter of basic equity. If the Minister examines the history of this — he said he will revert to the committee on this — he will note it is very offensive to somebody who is going to take the new Luas through St. Stephen’s Green to point to the Bank of...

Select Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Finance Bill 2017: Committee Stage (Resumed) (9 Nov 2017)

Joan Burton: I seek clarification. Before we adjourned, the Minister of State indicated in general terms that he was minded to revert to us with some work on this area and to re-examine the matter. What does that indication mean? It would affect people's responses and attitudes to the proposed amendments on this Stage or Report Stage.

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Corporation Tax Receipts: Department of Finance and Revenue Commissioners (14 Jun 2017)

Joan Burton: ...just the trading profits. I would like to see comparative figures. I do not know whether the manufacturing is down to construction and so on taking such a great leap forward. I find it hard to read that particular chart. To revert to Mr. McCarthy's earlier comment, we now have a huge number of banking companies coming into enormous profitability. From those statistics, the two...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (16 May 2017)

Joan Burton: ...to the preservation of the common transit area to enable goods to be shipped from Ireland to mainland Europe via the UK without customs penalties? There is a lot of detail on VAT. If we have to revert to free trade rules, the tariffs imposed could range from 2% up to 50%. In terms of the North and various proposals on a separate strand that we in the Labour Party and others have made...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Economic and Fiscal Position: Economic and Social Research Institute (7 Sep 2016)

Joan Burton: ...I understand that at any one time a number of people may be in hospital for short or long periods and others may be in nursing homes. If the witnesses do not have an explanation now, perhaps they will revert to the committee on the issue. If there is a stock of empty houses and the issue is, as the witnesses noted, one of supply, why can we not get at these houses?

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Economic and Fiscal Position: Nevin Economic Research Institute (6 Sep 2016)

Joan Burton: I have two short questions. I revert to some of Dr. McDonnell's earlier comments in respect of the letter from the Governor of the Central Bank to the Minister, Deputy Noonan, in which the Governor recommended that our debt ratio should fall from 60%. Is Dr. McDonnell basically stating he disagrees with that advice and that it would be better to use what leeway there is for investment?...

Leaders' Questions (10 Dec 2015)

Joan Burton: ...to planning to ensure we do not build permanent structures in areas which are continually subject to flooding on a five to ten-year cycle. That is a nightmare for the people involved. We must revert to local authorities and say they have a responsibility in their approach to planning.

Written Answers — Department of Social Protection: Partial Capacity Benefit Scheme Data (19 Nov 2015)

Joan Burton: ...consideration" category until they notify the Department otherwise. Persons continue to remain in receipt of their primary payment i.e. illness benefit or invalidity pension. There are no plans to revert to the previous exemptions arrangements for persons on illness benefit or invalidity pension.

Order of Business (22 Oct 2015)

Joan Burton: I will have to revert to the Deputy. I understand that the matter is before the courts.

Leaders' Questions (22 Oct 2015)

Joan Burton: ..., Tourism and Sport as it concerns references to specific companies which could have been addressed if the Deputy had provided them in advance. I undertake to have the matter examined and to revert to the Deputy with a reply. I acknowledge the welcome the haulage industry has given to the changes on the cost for those in the HGV sector. We are all aware that the industry suffered...

Leaders' Questions (22 Oct 2015)

Joan Burton: ...education which will mean that the overall number of apprentices will increase to 6,000. In relation to the specific issues the Deputy raises, I will certainly raise them with the Department and revert to him.

Written Answers — Department of Social Protection: Jobseeker's Benefit (1 Oct 2015)

Joan Burton: ...a part-time course in the Baldoyle Training Centre though she was offered other suitable course options in the Maynooth area. Upon completion of the training programme the person concerned will revert to her case officer when they will work together in sourcing suitable employment.

Written Answers — Department of Social Protection: Tax and Social Welfare Codes (29 Sep 2015)

Joan Burton: ...to the halving of the lower rate of employer PRSI (from 8.5% to 4.25% for a 2 ½ year period from July 2011 to December 2013). This was implemented as part of the Jobs Initiative announced in May 2011 and the rate reverted to 8.5%, as planned, at the beginning of 2014. Any changes to the rates of employer PRSI or applicable thresholds would have to be considered in a budgetary context.
