Vote 21 - Prisons
(17 Jan 2019)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...programme was rolled out in a number of prisons, with the aim of having it rolled out across all prisons this year. If the witnesses find the information before the end of the session, they can revert to us then instead. There was an acting clinical director last year. Has that role been filled on a full-time basis?

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 21 - Prisons
(17 Jan 2019)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...tells us the number of prisoners engaged in each regime. I presume the prisoner gets 95 cent, or is that the cost? The enhanced regime's figure is €2.20. This is on page 24. Ms McCaffrey can revert to us. I am not-----

Financial Resolution No. 3: Value-Added Tax (9 Oct 2018)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...In saying that, we understand the hotel sector in Dublin is booming. One cannot even find a room in which to stay. Even in the past 12 months, prices have doubled. Therefore, we would fully support reverting the rate back to 13.5% for the hotel sector. However, extending it across the entire sector is a retrograde step, one we cannot support. We will be voting against the proposal.

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Financial Statements of the HSE
2016 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 38 - Department of Health
(5 Jul 2018)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...to mention relates to mental health. Is there a figure for the number of CAMHS residential beds that are currently closed? If the witnesses do not have the figure, I am quite happy for them to revert to the committee with it. However, it would be useful to have it now.

Other Questions: Compensation Schemes (23 May 2017)

Jonathan O'Brien: I appreciate that the Minister is giving the information as she has it, as I am doing. I will revert to Deputy Crowe and relay to him the Minister's response. If he knows of individual cases that have been denied counselling services, I will ask him to take it up directly with her office.

Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 2015 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage (7 Feb 2017)

Jonathan O'Brien: That would mean we would revert to the 1908 Act.

Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill 2015 [Seanad]: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage (7 Feb 2017)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...Tánaiste's proposal in section 28 was withdrawn, incest would still be illegal on the Statute Book for any female person of or above 17 years. The penalty, as has been outlined by Deputy O'Callaghan, would revert to the penalty within the 1908 legislation, which is a term of three to seven years. This is not a case of removing the section and it suddenly becoming legal. It would...

Topical Issue Debate: Special Educational Needs Service Provision (19 Jan 2016)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...this but surely, as Minister for Education and Skills, the Minister can speak to the schools or can make some form of directive. Alternatively, if this is a funding issue, perhaps the Minister can revert and tell me this is why schools are not giving consideration to additional special classes. However, one cannot have a situation whereby in the entire county of Cork, 396 sixth class...

Other Questions: Technological Universities (27 Jan 2015)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...not quite clear. There was mention of looking at other possible mergers and money being saved on those. I understand the Minister might not have the answer in front of her, but if she can she might revert to me on how the €400,000 that has been spent will be recouped.

Other Questions: Special Educational Needs Services Provision (17 Apr 2013)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...has asked parents to refund any element not used for a one-to-one basis. I do not expect the Minister of State to answer the question today as I do not want to put him on the spot but he should revert to the officials and make inquiries about it. The discretion was always there and there was a benefit in using some of that grant for group settings rather than one-to-one sessions. It...

Health Service Plan 2012: Statements (Resumed) (2 Feb 2012)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...several days without his medication because he cannot afford to buy it. This morning I received an e-mail from the medical card unit informing me it had received the additional paperwork and will revert to us in a couple of weeks. How can a man who cannot afford the medication he needs to take every day be told he must wait another couple of weeks to get his medical card back? We all...

Health Services Delivery: Motion (Resumed) (26 Oct 2011)

Jonathan O'Brien: ...services from St. Mary's Hospital to the South Infirmary Victoria Hospital, is wrong. Under the proposal, the accident and emergency department at the South Infirmary Victoria Hospital will revert to a 12-hour service in December with full closure in April.
