Leaders' Questions (4 Jul 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...Taoiseach's choice of socks, rather they are interested in what he is going to do to ensure they will not be exposed to an increase in their waste collection charges. As of today, his answers to questions indicate that he will do absolutely nothing to help. It seems that he is happy that a free-for-all will ensue. Will he try to break through his fog of indifference and lack of empathy?...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Departmental Strategy Statements (21 Jun 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...the case, given what is called a gangland struggle that is under way, that the communities I happen to represent are very much caught in the middle of that. I would like the Taoiseach to give an indication of his continuing commitment to that process and, most specifically, to address my questions regarding the customs union and the Single Market.

Written Answers — Department of Health: Mental Health Guidelines (30 May 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: 412. To ask the Minister for Health if a person with a recent prescription for a psychotropic drug is considered to be a clinical indication of a mental health disorder under the guidelines of the Mental Health Act 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25351/17]

Questions on Promised Legislation (11 May 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: We will see what we can do. Yesterday, the Taoiseach indicated the Tánaiste would be more than happy, in fact delighted it seems, to come before the House and make a statement on the matters surrounding Templemore and some of the issues we touched on during Leaders' Questions. He also indicated the Tánaiste would be quite happy to take questions in that regard. I want to know...

Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - Garda Síochána - Internal Audit Report on Garda College, Templemore
(4 May 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: I think that is the right thing to do. We have indicated that a number of documents and correspondence are required. In fairness, we can only finish it when we have reflected on all of them. I assume that when the witnesses return, the audit work will be completed, Mr. Kelly's process will be completed and we will get some conclusions.

Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Waterford Institute of Technology: Financial Statements 2013-2014
(6 Apr 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: I thank the witnesses for those responses. I would like an indication from Dr. Love of when the report I have requested on whistleblowers and governors will be available. I imagine the Department will have some role in this. I have reason to believe - I hope I am wrong - that we may have been misled by certain witnesses who appeared before this committee on behalf of different institutions.

Questions on Promised Legislation (5 Apr 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...the Taoiseach about the publication of the second interim report from the commission of investigation into mother and baby homes. The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Deputy Zappone, had indicated that the report would be published at the end of March. She has now resiled from that commitment and is stalling the publication of the report. She says that both herself and the...

Order of Business (4 Apr 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...scandal. Some 13,000 are waiting for treatment and 3,500 have been waiting for more than a year. The report on the review of primary eye services has been delayed by a year. Can the Taoiseach indicate when he expects the review to be published? Is he prepared to commit additional resources to tackle this scandal?

Ceisteanna - Questions: Departmental Strategy Statements (21 Mar 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...of An Gaeilge and Acht na Gaeilge is a case in point. Will the Taoiseach report to the Dáil on his approach to the negotiations and his expectations for them with only days to go? The Taoiseach indicated in the United States last week that his future as Taoiseach was dependent on the Northern talks and the EU's decision on Brexit. Will he clarify what this means? What is his...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Freedom of Information Data (21 Mar 2017)

Will he indicate what legislative or other changes are envisaged to ensure the more open freedom of information regime to which the Taoiseach has committed?

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (9 Mar 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...health committee to ensure the expenditure to date, the projected expenditure, the estimates and the forecasts are absolutely, thoroughly and rigorously examined. The figures in the public domain indicate that it will be the most expensive children's hospital ever anywhere on the globe, which is absolutely shocking. In terms of our role, we know that there is that information or...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Taoiseach's Meetings and Engagements (8 Mar 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: The Taoiseach has indicated to my party leader, Deputy Adams, on several occasions that the Government intends to publish a White Paper on Brexit. The British Government is expected to trigger Article 50 next week if it overcomes the obstacles that have been erected by the House of Lords. That will create a step change in respect of Brexit, as it will mean we will move away from talking and...

Leaders' Questions (Resumed) (1 Mar 2017)

Leaders' Questions (23 Feb 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...people have no faith in this Government to deliver a fair health service and accessible health care. Can the Tánaiste tell me how she can stand over the outrageous and spiralling costs of the children's hospital and indicate when the facility will be built?

Leaders' Questions (16 Feb 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...of the Garda Inspectorate. However, there is a suspicion that more was offered to the Independent Alliance members of the Government in terms of goodies for their constituencies. Could the Minister indicate whether that is true? Perhaps it was another cath lab for the Minister of State, Deputy Halligan, in Waterford or Stepaside Garda station, for the Minister, Deputy Ross. The...

Leaders' Questions (19 Jan 2017)

Mary Lou McDonald: .... They reveal a catastrophic series of errors. What citizens deserve are answers. I listened to Dr. Orla Healy on "Morning Ireland" on my way in this morning. She spoke about key performance indicators, audits and local governance structures. This is all very fine but none of it provides citizens with the answers they want. How did this happen? They want to know why it took so long...

Public Accounts Committee: Special Report No. 94 of the Comptroller and Auditor General: National Asset Management Agency Sale of Project Eagle (Resumed) (24 Nov 2016)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...saying that despite the fact that there is a reference in the contemporaneous notes of the telephone call and the board minutes, which explicitly cites April and May 2013, this was somehow not an indication of PIMCO giving that information to NAMA. In fact, they have gone as far as to say – this is significant – that PIMCO deliberately mislead and failed to provide...

Public Accounts Committee: Special Report No. 94 of the Comptroller and Auditor General: National Asset Management Agency Sale of Project Eagle (Resumed) (24 Nov 2016)

Mary Lou McDonald: ...board did know, there were clear-cut obligations that had to be met. The concern I have, and that I believe others have, is that the transcript of the telephone calls, the testimony from PIMCO, indicates that in fact there was knowledge. The dates are specific. We are not going to agree on that but I want to explain that in case Mr. Daly is feeling a little hard done by in terms of the...
