Christopher O'Sullivan: Is it not a chicken-and-egg scenario?

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Support for Development of Regional Film and Television Production: Discussion (Resumed) (22 May 2024)

Housing for All: Statements (Resumed) (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: As I stand here this evening, there are families, individuals and couples, all prospective first-time buyers, in the Clonakilty area of west Cork who are gutted. I am gutted too. I will explain why. For the first time, west Cork was going to see the delivery of an affordable housing scheme - something that I and the people of the area had been seeking for years. There was finally going to...

Christopher O'Sullivan: I have not identified any developer, but this is a situation that I do not want to see happen again.

Housing for All: Statements (Resumed) (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I do not want to see this happen again in circumstances where the State or local authorities deal with people who act in such a way. I want to get that across. I feel for the families. They will have to wait a couple of years before the next affordable housing scheme comes along again. Thankfully, we will see one in Bandon very shortly. We will see one in Kinsale. There will be another...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy in the Food Sector: Discussion (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: This is a specific question for the EPA. Ms McCoole mentioned anaerobic digestion earlier. What role does the EPA feel that anaerobic digestion has in the circular economy in relation to the food sector?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy in the Food Sector: Discussion (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: The first part of Mr. Flynn's answer, in particular, plays out to the feeling out there among the sector that the EPA sees very little role for anaerobic digestion in dealing with waste. If I may expand on that a bit further, the experience for those who are either already involved in anaerobic digestion or trying to get involved in it is that the EPA just does not want anaerobic digestion...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy in the Food Sector: Discussion (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Perhaps comparisons of the EU and UK standards as well.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy in the Food Sector: Discussion (21 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I will finish on that. As a member of this committee which deals with climate action, climate change and the environment, I do not want to see any practices that in any way harm the environment, but I am just giving feedback from constituents of mine and also from other people in the sector. It kind of played out in Mr. Flynn's initial answer in that he described a lot of caution around...

Ceisteanna Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (15 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I would like to follow on from Deputy Bruton's question on carers and go a step further by making a plea that we use budget 2025 as an opportunity to once and for all take away the income limit on the means test for carer's allowance. Time and again, every TD has carers coming into his or her office who are €100, €50 or €20 over the means test. There is no flexibility...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Agriculture Industry (15 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank the Minister of State. He clearly has a great understanding of the bureaucracy and paperwork that is faced. The sector needs regulation; every sector needs some form of regulation. However, it has to be balanced. I welcome the recent news on the exemption for farms under 10 ha, which will benefit 20,000 farmers. It will be interesting to see how that plays out on the ground....

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Agriculture Industry (15 May 2024)

Christopher O'Sullivan: This week I visited Bandon mart and Skibbereen mart in my constituency. Meeting farmers, it is blatantly clear that they are fed up. They are mainly fed up of overregulation and they are fed up of red tape. They are tired of endless paperwork; new regulations being brought in on a weekly basis; the hoops they have to jump through to qualify for the different schemes; and the endless hours...
