Seanad: Sustainable Agriculture and Dairy Price Outlook: Statements (10 Dec 2014)

Marie Moloney: The Senator has 30 seconds in which to conclude.

Seanad: Sustainable Agriculture and Dairy Price Outlook: Statements (10 Dec 2014)

Marie Moloney: I ask the Senator to please conclude, otherwise the other speakers will not get in.

Seanad: Order of Business (10 Dec 2014)

Marie Moloney: I add my voice in condemning the appalling and disgusting behaviour towards and treatment of residents at Áras Attracta. It is only a year and a half ago that the Seanad discussed similar abuse in child care facilities. It is terrible that we have to hear what is going on in our facilities through the media. We must also be very careful not to tar every single care facility with the...

Seanad: Homelessness: Statements (3 Dec 2014)

Marie Moloney: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I echo the sentiments of other speakers and extend my sincere condolences to the family of the late Jonathan Corrie. I wonder what he would have said if he was told last week that he would be the instigator of a national debate in both Houses of the Oireachtas, adjacent to where he chose to lay down every night and under the shadow of which he...

Seanad: Action Plan for Jobs 2014: Statements (3 Dec 2014)

Marie Moloney: I thank the Minister for his responses and for coming to the House for this debate.

Seanad: Tourism Industry: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: It is much appreciated.

Seanad: Tourism Industry: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I commend the towns and tourist areas that have picked themselves up and not let the recession beat them down. Killarney has had the best season in a decade, which is great news for us. I commend them on the work they do in promoting tourism in their area and empowering themselves to bring in people. I also commend Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland on what they have done for tourism.

Seanad: Tourism Industry: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: Not at all; we are thriving there.

Seanad: Tourism Industry: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I thank the Minister for coming to the House to take this topic. It is not every morning that we wake up to good news, but I certainly woke up to good news this morning from the Minister. I gather the Minister has not yet highlighted what he has done for Donegal and Kerry by retaining the public service obligation arrangements for the regional airports. This is vital for jobs and tourism...

Seanad: Tourism Industry: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: It cannot be done because Killarney is synonymous with tourism. The work that Killarney people have put into promoting tourism has been phenomenal. They have promoted the town, which has many natural amenities, including the lakes. The Acting Chairman will agree with me because it is his home town as well. We have such natural beauty around Killarney and Kerry people have come together to...

Seanad: Tourism Industry: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: Christmas in Killarney is simply magical for anyone who visits. The jarveys do up their jarvey cars like sleighs. It is like being out on a sleigh ride.

Seanad: Availability of Certain Medication: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I thank the Minister for coming to the House for this debate. This subject has been raised several times in the Seanad on the Order of Business. In particular, Senator Darragh O'Brien has been calling for a debate on this issue for a long time and I am glad the Minister is here to discuss it. The Minister says he does not have any input into the matter but, as Minister for Health, I am...

Seanad: Availability of Certain Medication: Statements (26 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: We should negotiate with the drugs companies to reduce the price of drugs and make them available to people. If the drug works for just under 50% of the people, as the Minister said, that is a huge percentage. It should be available. Are we back to the position where the cheque book is ruling the health board? The person who can afford this drug will have the chance to walk and be mobile....

Seanad: Valuation (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2012: Report and Final Stages (20 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I second the amendment and I welcome the Minister's decision in regard to community and GAA clubs. It is something for which I have fought locally. A local club has a bar but the rest of the club house is used for training purposes and has changing rooms so I am delighted with this decision. It may not be relevant to this Bill but will the Minister of State look at community child care...

Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Medical Cards (19 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I understand the Minister of State has to read the reply into the record.

Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Medical Cards (19 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I guess it is a bad time to come looking for something new but it is important to highlight the plight of people with Down's syndrome. My timing probably is not great but I hope as we move forward that the finances will be available to expand this scheme further. The cost of scheme at €43.5 million seems quite high when only 4,355 citizens availed of the vehicle registration tax and...

Seanad: Adjournment Matters: Medical Cards (19 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: The title of this matter speaks for itself. I have been contacted by a number of parents of children with Down's syndrome, who have told me that they are constantly driving their children - including their adult children - to and from work, swimming, physiotherapy or whatever they need, and they never receive any help whatsoever. I am asking that the primary medical certificate be extended...

Seanad: Adoption (Identity and Information) Bill 2014: Second Stage (19 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: I welcome the Minister to the House. I thank Senators Power, van Turnhout and Healy Eames for drafting this legislation, as well as the distinguished guests in the Visitors Gallery who also were involved in this regard. I support this Bill and I am absolutely delighted that Senator Power has been involved because Members are listening to someone who knows what she is talking about. She has...

Seanad: Adjournment Matters: National Children's Hospital (12 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: Please put a supplementary question.

Seanad: Adjournment Matters: National Children's Hospital (12 Nov 2014)

Marie Moloney: That is a supplementary question.
