European Parliament Elections (Amendment) Bill 2013 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (30 Jan 2014)

Luke Flanagan: I am a big fan of Europe. What I love about it is its variety. However, I am no fan of the European Union because I believe it is setting about crushing what is different throughout Europe and trying to create one bland flavour that at the end of the day is good for nobody. When Ireland joined the European Community it was a community. A community is supposed to care for people in the...

Luke Flanagan: On a point of order, I never dismissed semi-States. Get your facts right.

Luke Flanagan: Bring on the next election.

Freedom of Information Act 1997 (Prescribed Bodies) Regulations 2014: Motion (29 Jan 2014)

Luke Flanagan: We seem to be in a new enlightened period of Irish politics where semi-State bodies will be subjected to openness and transparency. This is supposedly proven by the fact that Irish Water will be covered by the freedom of information legislation. However, this would not have happened were it not for the Government being hammered into doing so by the public. It became too ridiculous to do...

Other Questions: Turf Cutting Issues (29 Jan 2014)

Luke Flanagan: The Minister comes in here with what sounds like a definite figure of 37% gone while RPS tells us that the original figures were wrong and data from 1994 was sparse. If the Minister does not know what was there originally, how can he tell how much has been lost? He has to deal with this. He keeps talking about damage done by turf cutters. Will he please explain why my bog has grown by...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Turbary Rights (29 Jan 2014)

Luke Flanagan: It is of no help, and I do not appreciate that every time I come to the House to represent turf cutters, and also to represent an organisation whose chair was described as a hero and a patriot by the Taoiseach, that the Minister calls us criminals. If the Minister wants to find a solution he must stop calling us criminals.

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Turbary Rights (29 Jan 2014)

Luke Flanagan: Let the courts decide that and do not predetermine what the courts have decided.

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Turbary Rights (29 Jan 2014)

Luke Flanagan: I stand here today proud of the fact that active raised bog habitat has grown on my bog. On a bog of which the Minister is in charge, it is down by 91.6%. It is time for the Minister to resign. It is time for the National Parks & Wildlife Service to step back because it does not have a clue.
