Minister Phil Hogan said that the numbers went up by 49 from June 2008 to December 2011, he never said how many firefighters retired at the end of February 2012. I know that 3 have retired from Northstrand station, C watch alone. The optimum cover is 964, to allow for holidays and sick leave. 3.09 million euro is payed out on overtime to cover this shortfall per annum, how can the minister justofy this in the current climate? Surely to take in a class is the logical step and save money.
