Nowadays, nobody ever seems to quote or be advised by the Government advisory body, the National Statistics Board which published their advice to government in a document on postcodes namely: http://www.nsb.ie/word_docs/Stat_value_postcodes.doc. This clearly recommends a point based GIS approach rather than an absurd grouping of 20-50 premises. The latter will not enable an ambulance to find the house nor a courier to deliver a parcel but a proper geocode will do just that. Even if the geocode refers to a tent or a boat alongside a canal bank or marina. Is this just a case of government ignoring advice that they do not want to hear?
