As the Deputy is aware, the Climate Action Plan commits to the development of a National Biomethane Strategy, which is being co-led by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC). This strategy is currently at an advanced stage of development and will be finalised in the not-too-distant future.

The National Biomethane Strategy is being developed around a number of key pillars, one being the economics of biomethane. This will involve assessment of optimal deployment approaches, agri-centric considerations, and the scale of plants. My department has explored potential funding opportunities to kick start the Biomethane industry in Ireland. I hope to have an update on this soon. The Strategy will also set out key actions that must be delivered to assist Ireland with meeting its binding climate and renewable commitments.
